My experience participating in the discussions at public meetings has shown me that the town has no direction. Interestingly the community character chapter has revealed that there is a gap between the officially recognized town and the actual town.

I know the stats, but i have always felt that Southold is more independent than it appears.

At the last minute the standard of this noise law was switched, from the volume at the property line of the defendant, to the volume at the property line of the complainant.

For good reason there used to be a tradition of Southold Town police keeping complainants identities confidential.

Not only does this invite retaliation and intimidation, it violates the source of government authority.

Rather than protect the public health safety and welfare,
this law only protects the interests of adjacent property owners.

I’d like to see all the cops with real estate licenses give up selling real estate, too.
